WOMAN WARRIOR WEDNESDAY : FUNMILAYO RANSOME-KUTI
First African woman to drive a car.
She was the mother of Professor Olikoye Ransome- Kuti, Beko Ransome- Kuti, and Fela Anikulapo- Kuti.
Known as the ‘‘Lioness of Lisabi’’ who led the Abeokuta women’s revolt against arbitrary taxation, which led to the abduction of the Alake of Egba in 1946.
She championed women’s rights to vote, was a member of the house of chiefs, and one of the delegate that negotiated Nigerian’s independence from Great Britain in 1960.
She died from injuries sustained after being thrown out of the window by Nigerian military personnel in 1978.
